Format

  • 97 items, all multiple choice: 47 behavioral, 10 memorization, 40 in Section III; the exam also contains unscored field-test items.
  • 1 hour 30 minutes in total: Section I 20 minutes; Section II 1 minute per picture plus 1½ minutes for its questions; Section III 1 hour. Each section is timed on its own.
  • Computer-based, at Pearson VUE test centers. Phones, notes, bags and calculators stay out of the room, and there is no storage at the test sites (handbook, p.3).

What each section measures is on the test overview.

Passing score

The rule. A score of 70 or higher across all three sections, plus at least 30 of the 50 Section II and III questions correct. Note that the handbook describes the 70 as a score across all three sections, not a percentage correct.

The result. Pass/fail only; no score number is given to candidates, academies or agencies, so neither you nor an academy can compare scores, and "what's a good CJBAT score" has no answer.

Results

Unofficial result at the test center on the day; the official result is recorded in FDLE's ATMS database. Pearson VUE won't give results by phone or send them to an employer or anyone else. If you fail, you also get a grade and diagnostic information on a failing report, with a bar graph for Sections II and III. Section I is never reported. A lost report can be printed again from your Pearson VUE account.

Registering with Pearson VUE

  1. Create an account on Pearson VUE's FDLE page using your legal name exactly as it appears on your government ID.
  2. Choose the discipline: law enforcement (CJBATLEO) or corrections (CJBATCO).
  3. Pick a test center and date, and pay $39 by credit or debit card. The fee can't be paid at the center.
  4. Changing the date: 24 hours ahead, or the fee is lost.

The handbook also lists Pearson VUE's reservation phone line for booking and changes.

Test centers near you

Only Florida test centers deliver the BAT. The handbook points you to two ways to find one: the center search on Pearson VUE's site, or the Find a Test Center tool inside your account, which also shows open dates.

Several Florida colleges publish CJBAT pages for their testing centers. Book through Pearson VUE either way: that is where the seat, the fee and the result are recorded. If you live outside Florida, plan a trip; there is no remote option.

Cost

The fee is $39 per attempt, paid by card when you book and non-refundable. A retake is another full fee, and missing the reschedule deadline loses it. Every charge and the exceptions are on the cost page.

Retakes

  • At most 3 attempts per discipline in any 12 months; book a retake 24 hours after a fail and pay the fee again.
  • Attempts over the limit are invalid under rule 11B-35.0011.
  • Book the retake online or by phone, not at the test center.
  • The limit runs per discipline, so a law enforcement attempt doesn't use up a corrections one.

How long a pass is valid

A pass is valid for 4 years from the test date, under the state rule. The clock that matters is academy entry: start basic recruit training inside that window, or take the test again.

Exemptions

Veterans and holders of an associate degree or higher need not take the BAT before a law enforcement academy; there is no exemption for corrections. Two details from the rule: the degree exemption applies to applications on or after July 1, 2022, and "veteran" uses the definition in section 1.01(14) of the Florida Statutes. Ask your academy what proof it wants before you skip the booking.

What changed

The CJBAT replaced the older FBAT, which was last given on August 14, 2019. The current candidate handbook is the August 2025 edition. If your prep book still calls the test the FBAT, it predates the current test.

CJBAT exam facts, quick answers

What is the passing score for the CJBAT test?

A score of 70 or higher across all three sections, plus at least 30 of the 50 Section II and III questions correct. Only pass or fail is reported, never the number. How it's scored.

How long is the CJBAT good for?

4 years from the test date. After that you test again before entering an academy.

How do I get my CJBAT results?

At the test center, the same day. That result is unofficial; the official one is recorded in FDLE's ATMS database. Pearson VUE doesn't give results by phone.

What do I need to bring to the CJBAT?

Two current IDs with a signature; the primary one must be a government-issued photo ID, and the names must match your registration. Nothing else is allowed in the room. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals can't test and lose the fee.
